Nude Nite Gallery

Nude Nite is a annual juried art exhibition with hundreds of artists celebrating the beauty of the human body in a variety of art forms including paintings, sculptures, photography, live body painting and other live exhibitions.  Nude Nite 2012 invited me to do an interpretation of a famous nude painting of my choice in Jelly Bellys & M&Ms.   I chose the Modigliani painting "Seated Nude" from 1917.

Aside from the obvious challenges: 6 ft high and 5 ft wide, vertical application, to be done over three 6-hour evenings, I needed an adhesive that would not smell toxic and would hold the candy on a vertical surface.  Ceramic Tile Adhesive was my glue of choice, however, as it is water soluable, the candy had to be sealed first with a clear acrylic sealer.  Even so, some melted causing the drip marks, which actually added a "painterly" quality to the mosaic.  In the end, it looked amazing!!!  I will finish it in my studio and preserve it with an Epoxy sealer.  Please come by and visit anytime!

Special thanks to Kelly Stevens, Nude Nite Producer, for the invite and experience; my Mozaic Arts 'team', Jon Raymond, Linda Kunz, Grace Marini and Louis Mariani,  my neighbor Janet Grimm from Flamingo Framing, Chuck at RIOT, Rosa at Dylan's Candy Store, Sam Flax for the gator board, and the dozens of people who attended and added their touches; your pictures are below!
